Refugee continues where Simply Irresistible leaves off and follows the story of Amanda and Jack. Their loving, bdsm relationship is breath of fresh air in a genre filled with unloving and unrealistic characters.

Amanda Byrne has been a sub in an abusive relationship for the past two years. She has managed to escape the sexual dungeon and is now in Officer Jack Smith’s protective care. Jack is wonderful. He anguishes over his feelings for Amanda, knowing how fragile her mental state is after the abuse she has gone through. He pushes her to find her independence and re-establish her own identity. When he screws up, he acknowledges it immediately, and does whatever he needs to keep Amanda from breaking. Amanda strives to become the woman she once was, and earn her self-respect back.

Ms. Storey created an incredible set of characters, bringing them to life for me. I felt for them. I cheered their actions, and felt their pain. A beautiful story of how a loving, trusting relationship can be fulfilling without restricting one’s freedom and growth.
