Jardonn Smith's latest is called Danube Divide and is due for release by MLR Press any day now. Here's the back cover blurb:
The Battle of Hadrianopolis, 378 AD, Roman legions versus Gothic warriors -- ancient historian Ammianus called it the worst defeat in Roman history since Cannae. Theologian Rufinus said it was the beginning of evils for the Roman Empire then and thereafter.
Fifteen thousand Romans, two-thirds of the Eastern Empire Legionary forces, lay dead or dying on a Thracian plain, but for four men on opposite sides of the battlefield, no conflicts of cultures, religions or territorial boundaries could keep them apart. Nor could the mighty river that separated their homelands -- The Danube. Despite all obstacles, these men will find their way to conquer the Danube Divide.
Then again, it's not my story. I was just a conduit, or perhaps a whore, to a character named Boris. He was supposed to be a minor player but he wouldn't shut up. Took over the whole sha-bang and turned it on its head, made it much better than what I had planned, and don't you worry, Boris provided plenty of opportunities for hot mansex in hidden caves, dark forests and mountain pools. He even included references to one of my other Roman-era tales, The Tortured Secutor, part of a two-story collection titled Let's Get Medieval, which I self-published for sale on Amazon.
And it all started with me trying to tell of an epic battle that changed the course of human history. Whew!
